The natural bathing lake in the Valle Aurina has been a popular excursion destination surrounded by greenery for decades

In local dialect, "Baggalocke" describes a small pond that was dug out by an excavator - and this is exactly how the bathing pond in Gais village was once formed. The sunbathing lawn, bar and shady trees are grouped around the lake, which is a real attraction for young and old in summer. It had already existed for decades before it was extended and remodelled a few years ago.
There is now also a wooden bridge and a pirate ship on the shore, inviting visitors to enjoy an ice cream or a cool drink. The natural bathing lake is easily accessible by car and by bike, as the Valle Aurina Cycle Path, one of the cycle paths in South Tyrol and an extension of the "Pusterbike" Cycle Path, leads past it and continues to the town of Brunico or - viceversa - to the head of the valley. This makes it a good opportunity to round off a bike ride with a jump into the water.
