Via Monachorum - Path of Silence

Silentium… Path of Silence - in the tranquillity of nature, the path leads from Madonna di Senales to the Allerengelsberg Monastery

"On the tree of silence hangs its fruit: peace" - everything on the Path of Silence is focussed on inner peace, tranquillity and therefore also on nature, which provides this tranquillity. There is a very special building in the Val Senales valley: the Carthusian Monastery "Allerengelsberg". Centuries ago, the monks lived their convent life here in silence and dressed in white robes. Today, parts of the monastery walls, the Gothic cloister and the former monastery kitchen are still preserved and can be visited. And it is precisely this venerable building that is the destination of the hike along the Via Monachorum, also named "Silentium" (Path of Silence).

The excursion starts behind the pilgrimage church of Madonna di Senales, you can park in the car park above the archeoParc Val Senales or simply take bus no. 261 to the village. The route then continues on trail no. 19 and then no. 21 to the Raindlhöfe farms and on to Certosa. Panels with philosophical quotes about stillness and silence adorn the path, and life-size monk figures, which also amaze children, point the way. After the monastery, you can continue to Monte Santa Caterina (trail no. 26 and then no. 32). The 10 km hike takes about 3.5 hours in total.
