Hike on the Monte Klausberg to Lake Chiusetta

Excursion in the Klausberg hiking area in the Valle Aurina to the mountain lake below the Monte Fumo at 2,160 metres a.s.l

Lake Chiusetta, or Klaussee, is a mountain lake in the Kleinklaustal valley, within the Klausberg ski and hiking area. The Kristall-Alm starting point is located at the top station of the "K-Express" cable car, which comes up from Cadipietra in the Valle Aurina. Also at the top station is the start of the Klausberg Flitzer, an Alpine Coaster, and slightly further up is the Klausberg Family Park with its dinosaurs and zip line. The route follows trail marker no. 33 (Durreck High Route) and passes a series of alpine huts with restaurants. The Moaregg Hut is situated right after the start.

Here, visitors can choose between the gravel road or the hiking trail along the edge of the forest. The trail is steeper but shorter, and we choose this option. During the ascent, the route passes the Speck-und-Schnaps-Alm, Baurschaft Hut, and Bachmair snack station. The path goes steadily upwards and follows the course of the ski slope, which serves as a cattle pasture in summer.

After almost two hours, we reach our destination at 2,160 metres above sea level. Lake Chiusetta lies in a hollow below the Monte Fumo (Rauchkofel). We find the setting incredibly quiet and relaxing. Walking around the small lake is well worthwhile to enjoy the views of the Zillertal Alps.

Wild berries thrive in the heathland, while marmots whistle among the scree slopes. The descent follows the same path. Those wishing to extend the tour can climb further up or turn it into a circular hike via the Breitwand and the Grossklaustal valley.
