The Brennero Pass is the lowest crossing over the main Alpine ridge and is an important traffic route. But it is also a starting point for hikes through barely touched natural landscapes. We start our tour at the Gasthaus Wolf tavern, very close to the motorway exit "Brennero South". This is where the forest path to the Enzianhütte mountain hut starts (marker no. 12).

A few bends further up, the noise of the motorway traffic is no longer noticeable and we find ourselves in a green forest landscape. At about 1,620 m a.s.l. a path branches off to the right (marker no. 11), which we follow. Flat sections alternate with ascents, finally the path becomes wider and turns into a driveway. The first huts in the forest indicate that we are approaching our destination. The forest ends abruptly and a wide alpine meadow landscape opens up in front of us: these are the meadows of the Malga Leitneralm, which stretch almost up to the Cima Vallaccia (Flatschspitzen). Our destination, the Enzianhütte mountain hut, is not far from here.

We are already looking forward to our lunch and enjoy the view from the Schlüsseljoch over the Daxspitze to the Stubai Alps. Later we will go back the same way. By the way: in the past, there was even a small skiing area with a chairlift on the Zirog. Today this area has been somewhat forgotten, but we think that it is precisely the peace and quiet that makes this destination so attractive.
