Hike to Velturno via Giovignano

Autumnal walk on the sunny hillsides of the Valle Isarco valley in the area of Velturno

Our late autumnal walking tour in the colourful Valle Isarco starts at the small village of San Pietro Mezzomonte (Schrambach). As we cannot find an obvious parking space we park our car next to the Brenner-Road. From here we walk into the direction of the village and the so-called farm Moarhof where the path to the waterfall starts. We follow the blue-white sign and reach immediately a wooden bridge under the waterfall of San Pietro Mezzomonte.

We continue to walk along the blue-white marked path, towards the "Loaterer" which can be reached on a small unmarked path which turns off left from our way (attention, the forest is quite unkempt here). From here we walk further upwards towards Giovignano, the forest clears and we have a splendid view on the other side of the Valle Isarco. Along the road, on the pavement, we hike downwards the Valle Isarco towards Velturno Castle, where also guided tours are provided.

Past the castle our way proceeds down towards Chiusa (Klausen), soon the Törggelesteig path to San Pietro Mezzomonte turns off which brings us back. The path from the waterfall to the Loaterer is marked only partly, the numerous small tracks are quite misleading. Best to ask on site.
