Hike through the Puez-Odle Nature Park

Tour from the Glatsch Hut to the impressive rock faces of the Odle peaks in the beautiful Funes Valley

The hikers' car park at the Malga Zannes above Santa Maddalena di Funes is the starting point for numerous routes through the Puez-Odle Nature Park. The shortest of these follows the Zannes Nature Experience Trail, while a more challenging option leads up to the Col di Poma.

On this July day, with our toddler in a carrier backpack, we choose a two-hour hike and follow trail no. 6 to the Glatsch Hut at 1,900 metres above sea level. This first section is also the steepest. From here, the path levels out and turns left into the Puez-Odle Nature Park.

Arnica and alpine roses bloom alongside the narrow path. Before long, and without much effort, we pass directly beneath the Odle peaks. It is an impressive sight! Right next to the alpine meadow, a scree slope begins, rising to meet the near-vertical rock faces of the Odle.

The path then winds gently along the mountainside, crosses the Rio Ciancenon stream, and leads from there up to the right towards the Ciancenon Hut. This refuge hosts youth camps during the summer. Now it is time to head back: We cross the stream again and follow the wide path straight down to the hikers' car park. If you want to extend the hike, you can walk in the opposite direction instead of heading back across the stream.

Following trail no. 35, the Adolf Munkel Path leads with gentle ups and downs to the Casnago Hut, and continues from there to the Brogles Hut. Trail no. 28 then brings you back to the Malga Zannes car park, which is also home to the Dolomites UNESCO Info Point.
