The Zannes Nature Experience Trail in Funes provides an insight into the fascinating flora and fauna of the Puez-Odle Nature Park. This summer hike starts at the Malga Zannes car park at the end of the Val di Funes, accessible via a mountain road from Santa Maddalena. Here, one of the nature park's two visitor centres has opened its doors: the Dolomites UNESCO Info Point.
The second, the Puez-Odle Visitor Centre, is located down in the valley in Santa Maddalena di Funes. From the car park, which can now also be booked online, we walk slightly uphill past the mountain inn. Soon after, we find the signs for the nature trail on the gravel path.
In just over an hour, the trail leads us past several wooden sculptures and a total of 14 stations. These tell of the formation and natural characteristics of this area, and some are equipped with Braille. The gradient is gentle at 7–8% and leads up to an altitude of 1,743 metres.
The mighty peaks of the Odle Group serve as a backdrop. After the Piuswiese meadow, we pass a game reserve, and then the trail loops back to the car park past a lime kiln and a forest keeper's house. Several rest areas invite a short break. Another wonderful tour in this area is the hike through the Puez-Odle Nature Park which takes two and a half hours.
