Today, we have decided on a mountain tour in the Sarentino Alps. The starting point is at the Caerna Cross, which we reach via the mountain village of the same name, Caerna above Velturno. Starting from here, we follow the gravel path towards the Monte Pascolo for a few metres and then turn off onto a narrower forest trail. First, the path leads up through the forest.

Then we reach lovely alpine meadows and a mountain stream. The route continues here to the Brugger Schupfe and Glanger Kasolm huts, but we stay on path no. 10. The forest is now behind us, and the view becomes increasingly impressive: The Odle, the mighty Sciliar, the Catinaccio Group, and other Dolomite peaks spread out before us. The view down into the Valle Isarco also bathes the otherwise rather inconspicuous valley in a completely different light.

We continue up the meadow slopes via a narrower mountain path, always following path no. 10. We reach a fork in the path where there is an option to branch off towards the Lago Rodella Hut. We take path no. 10A towards the summit of the Monte Pascolo (Königsangerspitze), which we reach after a total of two hours of walking.

After a picnic with a magnificent view at 2,439 metres above sea level, we choose the same route for the return to Caerna. An alternative to this is the descent via path no. 7, which leads to Lake Rodella and the mountain hut of the same name at 2,284 metres above sea level.
