In early summer, the alpine meadows begin to bloom and nature awakens beneath the peaks of the Cime Bianche di Telves

We embark on this moderate alpine hike on a beautiful June day, which in the mountains still feels more like spring than summer. The starting point for our hike to the Telves Alpine Pastures is Telves di Sopra on the sunny slope above Racines. In the village centre, we follow path no. 5 "Telfer Almen", which initially is a tarmac road used as a toboggan run in winter and leads across sunny meadows. The route then continues through the forest as a forestry track.
Staying on path no. 5, we reach the first of the three mountain huts, the Freundalm Hut at 1,720 metres above sea level. Here, high above the Vipiteno valley basin in the middle of the Atscherwiesen alpine pasture area, we can relax on the hut's terrace.
For us, however, it is just the first stop, as the path soon continues uphill towards the Kuhalm Hut. This is where the middle section of the circular alpine trail begins: The hut is located 200 metres further up in elevation, at 1,900 metres, and also serves traditional dishes.
Just above the hut runs the Ridanna High Route on the sunny plateau of the Monte Cavallo, which we follow in a westerly direction. This takes us to the third mountain hut, the Ochsenalm, which also serves refreshments and is situated at the same altitude as the Kuhalm. On path no. 6, which branches off from the high route immediately after the hut, we descend across the alpine meadows and thus return to the Freundalm. From there, we take the same path back.
