This late autumn hike on the sunny slopes of the Valle Isarco reveals the Toerggele area of Velturno

Our late autumn hike in the colourful Valle Isarco begins in the hamlet of San Pietro Mezzomonte near Velturno, called Schrambach in German. There is no designated parking area here, so we leave our car near the Brennero road. From here, we hike towards the village and the Moarhof farm, where the trail to the hidden but impressive waterfall begins.
Following the blue and white signpost, we reach a wooden bridge below the San Pietro Mezzomonte Waterfall, which is also visible from the valley basin. We continue along the blue and white marked path towards "Loaterer", a farm tavern, which is reached via an unmarked track that soon branches off to the left from the narrow forest path. The forest here is quite overgrown!
Incidentally, Peter Mayr, the innkeeper at the Mahr, hid at the Loaterer Hof in 1809. Like Andreas Hofer, he was one of the central figures of the Tyrolean Rebellion. From here, we hike further upwards towards Giovignano (Tschiffnon), and the forest begins to clear.
Walking along the pavement, we follow the road to Velturno Castle and then hike downwards from Velturno village towards Chiusa. The "Törggelesteig" trail then branches off towards San Pietro Mezzomonte, leading back to the starting point along stone-paved paths.

- The overall time shown above refers to the walking time only, not including breaks or stops. The path from the San Pietro Mezzomonte Waterfall to the Loaterer Hof farm tavern is only partially signposted - the numerous forest paths in the area are rather confusing.
If you want to undertake this hike, we recommend checking the weather and trail conditions in advance and on site before starting this hike!
