The Lago di Pontelletto Hut and the lovely Lake Pontelletto in the Sarentino Alps are the destinations for this autumn hike

From Le Cave, the small village north of Fortezza, we drive up to the farmsteads located on the hillside. There is a parking area at the Fischnaller Farm, shortly before the end of the asphalt road. This is where the "Malga Pontelletto" forest road begins, which we follow. Alternatively, the steeper path no. 14 through the forest can be taken, reducing the walking time by a third.
We decide on the longer, leisurely option along the forest road. It winds uphill. Where the coniferous forest thins out, we enjoy the views of the Fundres Mountains with Mt. Picco della Croce to the east, and the seemingly close peaks of the Sarentino Alps to the southwest.
We have been walking for about two hours when we reach the mountain hut at 1,780 metres above sea level. The sunny Lago di Pontelletto Hut, or Puntleider See Alm, is a popular place to stop for a rest, serving local food and drinks. From here, it is not far to Lake Pontelletto.
The route there is a stony and root-covered path through the forest, but it is worth investing the 20 minutes of walking time and 80 metres of elevation gain. Lake Pontelletto is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Valle Isarco, with a particularly lovely view from the western shore.
The descent follows the same route back. After four hours of walking, we return to Le Cave.
