Hike from Villandro to the St. Anna Church

Short autumn hike to Gravetsch Castle and to the area of the former Villandro Mine in Rotlahn, where the small St. Anna Church is located in the middle of the forest.

The sunny slopes of the Valle Isarco valley are a popular excursion destination especially in autumn. Pleasant walks through the colourful forests with beautiful views on the Dolomites and in conclusion a special Törggele evening in one of the mountain inns can be enjoyed. Right in the village centre of Villandro, our hike starts on the “Keschtnweg” (Chestnut Trail) towards north.

After a 20-minute walk we branch off towards Gravetsch and walk slightly uphill to this beautiful and listed castle. The manor dates back to the 12th century and belongs nowadays to the Pupp Family. We continue our hike uphill on the path no. 3A to St. Anna in Rotlahn.

In the forest high above the Thinnetal valley the eponymous little church is located, a building in early Baroque style dating back to the 18th century. It rises in the middle of a clearing. For more than 150 years the St. Anna Church has represented the religious centre for the miners of the nearby Villandro Mine. It has been transformed into a museum which is open on request. Finally the paths no. 3B and 3 lead us back to Villandro where we enjoy a coffee and the last warming autumnal sunbeams.
