Pond of Fiè

The small Pond of Fiè near Fiè allo Sciliar and the Alpe di Siusi is a popular bathing lake and biotope.

The Pond of Fiè has been established by Leonhard baron Colonna of Fiè as a fishpond in the 16th century. Today, however, fishing is no longer permitted and part of the lake is recognized as a valuable biotope. The great location of the lake, at the foot of the Sciliar massif and the Santer peak as well as in close vicinity to reknown hiking destinations, makes this pond both in summer and winter a popular meeting place for those who love hiking, swimming and ice skating.

The surface of the lake is about one hectare, half of it is designated as biotope. The Pond of Fiè is situated 12 km above Bolzano, in other words within easy reach from the main city of South Tyrol. In summer you can enjoy clear mountain air in combination with swimming in the refreshing pond.

In winter, however, you can go ice skating on the frozen lake. The Pond of Fiè is one of the only lakes in the surroundings which is cleared for ice skaters in case of snowfall.
