Spring hike from Gudon to the Gnollhof

Nature is awakening to new life as we set out on an easy spring hike in Gudon in the Valle Isarco

At the entrance to Gudon, the "village on the seven hills" in the municipality of Chiusa, there is a car park where we leave our car. Path no. 7, signposted "Gnoll", starts here and leads to the Gnollhof in about an hour and a half. The hotel is also a popular place to stop for refreshments, and on this April day, the hike is accompanied by a magnificent display of blossoms. The asphalt road leads to a junction, where we first keep left and then bear right at the next fork.

We follow the signs until we cross a small bridge and enter the forest. Here, the road turns into a gravel path but continues to wind its way gently uphill. After an hour of walking, during which we see snow-capped peaks in the distance and blossoms on the trees all around, we reach another asphalt road. Another five minutes later, we head back into the forest, continuing on path no. 7.

Another half an hour, and we have reached our destination, the Gnollhof. We are at an altitude of 1,157 metres. This would be a good place to stop for a bite to eat, but we know that it is closed in March and April, except for the Easter period, after which the summer season begins. In the distance, the peaks of the Odle Group stands majestically. On the sun-drenched hilltop above Gudon, we enjoy the feeling of spring and the first warming rays of sun on our skin.

Then it's time for the return journey: We follow the road to the Figisterhof, a traditional farm tavern, which is followed by a ten-minute section on path no. 3. After that, we turn right onto the hiking trail (be careful, as there are few signs here) and follow it until we rejoin the path we took on the way up. This leads us directly back to Gudon and our car. Gudon is also easily accessible by public transport from Chiusa (a seven-minute journey).
