At the beginning of February, the Alpe di Siusi becomes the meeting place of the international cross-country skiing elite and the venue of the famous Moonlight Classic. The cross-country ski race takes place at full moon and is a fixed component of the yearly calendar. For this special event the Alpe di Siusi Cable Car operates between 8 am and 1 am - the athletes can use it for free.
The race itself begins at 8 pm with a mass start. The distances are 15 km and 30 km, furthermore there's a "Just for Fun" category, but only classic diagonal style is allowed. The winners' ceremony in the pavilion at about 10 pm rounds off the race. By the way: The Moonlight Classic Alpe di Siusi supports the South Tyrolean Sports Aid to promote young talents. For every registration, the organisation committee donates 2.00 Euros, which are doubled by a sponsor.
