For several years now, the Val d'Ultimo valley has been inviting visitors to a special culinary highlight at the beginning of September: Before the traditional Pracupola Market - always held on September 22 - and the Val d'Ultimo Lamb Weeks are held at the end of the month, first the various South Tyrolean Krapfen are celebrated and tasted. Their variety already starts with the popular Val d'Ultimo poppy seed Krapfen. They are traditionally baked on All Saints' Day: The filling of finely ground poppy seeds, sugar, butter and a little cinnamon and nutmeg is particularly juicy.
Other Krapfen have fillings of jam or chestnuts, and are served with cream or with icing sugar. At the South Tyrolean Krapfen Festival at the valley station of the Pracupola Cable Car, you can watch the farmers' wives making Krapfen and enjoy the fresh dessert afterwards. The perfect way to end the mountain summer in a very special atmosphere!
