Cicular hike Nussental and Castelvecchio

Through the spring forest above San Giuseppe al Lago in Caldaro we hike up to the village of Castelvecchio and via the Peace Path back to the valley again

Our hike starts in San Giuseppe al Lago (St. Josef am See) at the parking space at the fire station. Here the path towards Castelvecchio (Altenburg) starts (marker no. 14). The path proceeds through the Nussental valley and the deciduous forest. At about 600 m a.s.l. the Nussental valley and the trail end at the junction with the panorama trail "Auf der Warth".

We follow this path and reach a few particularly beautiful vantage points across the Oltradige, Lake Caldaro and the Bassa Atesina. After a U-curve we return to Castelvecchio and finally to the little village, where we find several restaurants - perfectly suited for our lunch break. On a full stomach we venture to part 2 of our circular hike. Passing the parish church of Castelvecchio we head towards the ruins of the St. Peter Basilica and down into the Rastenbach Gorge.

Now we walk on the Peace Path (Friedensweg) further towards north, come out of the gorge and follow the path through the deciduous forest. At the junction with the Via Kardatsch road we follow it and finally return to San Giuseppe al Lago, where our circular hike ends.
