Autumn hike along the Margaret Trail

The Margarethenweg leads from Terlano to Casanova Castle and commemorates Margaret of Tyrol-Gorizia

It is early December, and winter already has most parts of the country firmly in its grip. However, the sun shines brightly here in the Valle dell'Adige valley on this winter day, and we decide to take a short walk to a special place. We drive to Terlano. Shortly before the village centre, we turn off towards Meltina and follow the road for a few hundred metres.

The Margaret Trail (Margarethenweg) starts right along the road. We park the car in a small lay-by. The Terlano beautification society created the path in 1963. Its name commemorates Margaret, Countess of Tyrol, known as "Maultasch", who lived at Casanova Castle (Burg Neuhaus).

The promenade leads us exactly to this spot, which is a ruin today. We are on the sunny side of the mountain and can still enjoy the warming sunbeams at the castle. At the ruin itself, information boards tell the history of the proud castle building and its famous resident.

As the sun slowly sets, which happens quite early in December, we start our way back. We reach our car again after a total walking time of 30 minutes.
