Hike from Magrè to Favogna

Lake Favogna is located at about 1,000 m a.s.l. in Favogna: An ancient path proceeds from Magrè up to the biotope

In Magrè on the Wine Road (Margreid, 220 m a.s.l.) the path up to Favogna (Fennberg) starts. We walk through the village centre (Via Anrather road and Piazza Santa Geltrude square) and follow the Via Franz von Fenner road road towards north. So we leave this beautiful old village and reach the vineyards of Leiten near Niclara. The signpost to Favogna leads us through the forest until the gorge of the Favogna stream. At the bridge the asphalt road turns into a forest path which proceeds upwards along the steep slope. After about 2.5 hours we reach the plateau of Favogna.

We walk past the little Our Lady of the Snows Church to the hamlet of Favogna di Sotto (Alla Chiesa / Zur Kirche tavern). Amidst a meadow the beautiful church dedicated to St. Leonhard from the 13th century is located, not far away from Lake Favogna.

Both are really worth visiting. To come back to Magrè we take the same route. This walking tour is not recommended on hot resp. muggy days. At weekends in summer it is also possible, to use the hiking bus. Please take information about the timetables before you start!
