Via the Malga Prantner to the Malga Hühnerspiel

Easy hiking tour on forest roads through the woods above Vipiteno and Colle Isarco: the Prantner Alm, the Riedberg Alm and the Hühnerspiel-Hütte alpine huts are stops on our way.

To get to the starting point of our cosy alpine hut tour, we drive from Smudres (Schmuders) past the Braunhof to the end of the asphalt road (at the turn-off Gögl / Plunhof), where there are a few parking spaces at the roadside. From here we follow the forest road towards the Prantner Alm, which was once built as a military road. The ascent is in serpentines - the road is pleasantly wide and not particularly steep, the only disturbing thing is that the dusty stretch to the Riedberg Alm is open to car traffic. After about one hour we reach the popular Prantneralm hut at about 1,800 m a.s.l. The sunny terrace opens up the view on the valley basin of Vipiteno and the Stubai Alps with the striking Tribulaun mountains in the foreground.

We continue on the forest road, which is now also marked as path no. 3, in about 30 minutes to the Riedberg Alm, which is about 100 m higher. From there, path no. 11 leads almost flat past the idyllic Platzalm, through a biotope to the Hühnerspielhütte hut. After about 2 hours of walking we have reached our destination. The house in traditional style is known for its cuisine, which is specialised in regional organic products. Unfortunately we have bad luck, because we visit the hut surrounded by flowering meadows on the closing day. But this is not a big problem, because on the way back we soon pass the Riedbergalm again, where we enjoy tasty cheese dumplings on the terrace, with view on the nearby Weißspitze and the Bairnock mountains. To return, we take the same route.
