The Passo dello Stelvio road becomes accessible only to cyclists and pedestrians for one night in June
For half a night in June, the legendary Stelvio Pass Road becomes a quiet place. The Stelvio Night event begins at 8 pm, and there are no engines. Instead, pedestrians and cyclists gather on the road between Prato allo Stelvio and the Passo dello Stelvio itself. The last seven kilometres from Franzenshöhe to the pass summit are bathed in indirect light to show the way up to an altitude of 2,757 metres. A ticket is required to participate, and the available places are released from January.
This includes a shared aperitif (before collecting the reserved tickets at the aquaprad National Park House), a soup at Franzenshöhe and a pasta party at the Tibet Hut. In the event of bad weather, the organizers postpone the event to the following day.
The Stelvio Night event was launched in 2024, partly to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the pass road. In 2025, 350 people from seven nations already took part in this extraordinary night. A shuttle service is available afterwards upon request to return comfortably and safely to the valley.
Incidentally, another important event takes place one month later on the trails away from the road between Prato allo Stelvio and the pass summit: the Stelvio Trail Run.
