With an overall area of 1,050 hectares, Appiano is known as the biggest wine growing village of South Tyrol. For more than 20 years now, the Wine Culture Weeks have been celebrated on 11 days between late July and early August. It is a wine event and enogastronomical festival completely dedicated to wine as well as Alpine-Mediterranean specialities. The historic alleys of the charming wine village of San Paolo, surrounded by vineyards, are the perfect scenery for a highly attractive selection of events during the Wine Culture Weeks, including wine tastings and culinary evenings as well as theme walks. Among the highlights there are the Big Bottle Party with live music and the Dumpling Day, when the venerable Residence Angerburg invites to taste a great variety of dumplings made by local farmers, as well as the South Tyrolean Wine Promenade.
The latter is a wine tasting in the wineries and cellars of Appiano. The crowning event is the "Gastliche Tafel" - a gourmet evening under the stars, when starred chef Herbert Hintner creates gourmet dishes, which are served on a 130 metres long table in the historic alleys of San Paolo, right under the starlit sky. The places are limited! By the way: after the vintage in October, another event is celebrated. "The last cartload of grapes" is a wine experience taking place in Cornaiano. The last tractor load of grapes is brought to the village centre and the grapes are pressed right there. The festival offers live music, delicacies and excellent wines.
