The popular open-air theatre is one of the oldest open-air theatres in South Tyrol - it takes place between July and August
The Renon sunny plateau offers Earth Pyramids and a skiing area, hiking trails and charming villages, a swimming lake and a narrow-gauge railway that is still in operation, as well as... an unforgettable theatre summer. Every year between the end of July and mid-August, the inner courtyard of the historic Longomoso Commandery is transformed into a theatre stage.
It is one of the oldest open-air theatres in South Tyrol and primarily presents plays in German dialect as well as sophisticated folk theatre. Since 1973, the venue has hosted performances such as "Einen Jux will er sich machen" by Johann Nestroy, "Birnbaum und Hollerstauden" by Joseph Maria Lutz, "Frau Suitner" by Karl Schönherr and - in the 2025 edition - "Bezahlt wird nicht!" based on the work of Dario Fo, an Italian playwright, director, and stage designer.
More than 300 performers and volunteers, alongside 13 directors, take turns, with everyone making a contribution. The theatre-loving amateur actors, who dedicate their free time to the success of the Renon Summer Plays (Rittner Sommerspiele), come from all parts of South Tyrol and neighbouring countries. The play for 2026 will be announced in the spring.
