South Tyrolean Speck Festival

In the Val di Funes valley, everything revolves around the hearty South Tyrolean Speck every year at the beginning of October.

What the Strawberry Festival is for the Val Martello, the Speck Festival is for the Val di Funes, including the Speck Queen. For a whole weekend, the Speck is celebrated under the magnificent backdrop of the Odle Peaks: An insight into the working world and customs of the valley is offered, South Tyrolean delicacies are sampled while music is played, and bread is baked in show ovens. Superlatives are not to be missed either, such as the longest Speck table, the largest Speck crown, or a performance by the "Gletscherhans", the fastest Speck cutter far and wide...

In addition to South Tyrolean Speck, a protected brand, the festival also focuses on the Villnösser Brillenschaf, a special feature of the valley: South Tyrol's oldest breed of sheep is easily recognisable by the likeable dark patch around its eyes that gives it its name. It is valued for its soft wool. The South Tyrolean Speck Festival is organised by the South Tyrolean Speck Consortium.
