70 different dumpling variations are the focus of the autumn Knödelfest Sterzing in the historic centre of Vipiteno

Every year on the second Sunday in September, the town of Vipiteno around the famous Tower of the Twelve becomes a dumpling mile: Then a 400-metre long table is set up in the new and old town where the round delicacies can be tasted in all kinds of variations. Also at the central square and on the local mountain, the Monte Cavallo, dumplings are served.

Already for a millennium, dumplings have been an important element of the farmer's kitchen in South Tyrol. The dishes include dumplings with chanterelles, savoury bacon, without anything as napkin dumplings, furthermore there are creative variations with a nougat or strawberry filling.

Are you curious now? The Vipiteno Dumpling Festival has been organised for more than two decades by the Vipiteno Val di Vizze Campo di Trens Tourist Association and the participating restaurants, and attracts thousands of visitors every year. Live music and folklore groups provide accompaniment to the culinary delights. Free entry, table reservation not possible.
