Hike to the Malga Sebia in the Sarentino Valley

A family hike from the small Lake Valdurna to the Seebalm in the Sarentino Alps, serving South Tyrolean dishes

Valdurna at the head of the Valle di Valdurna is a traffic-free village. There is a car park just before the village, which is the last place to leave a vehicle: Here, at an altitude of 1,518 metres, we begin our spring hike. Initially, the route follows a paved road along the left bank of Lake Valdurna. At the Fischerwirt restaurant, we leave the lake's circular path and follow hiking trail no. 16.

It leads along the Seebtal stream towards the Sebia Hut, or Seebalm. Continuing steadily upwards, still on asphalt, the road eventually turns into a hiking trail that climbs further into the valley.

This hike is ideal for the summer months, but the early summer temperatures prompted us to set off in April on this occasion. We are rewarded with a sea of white and purple flowers: The alpine meadows of the Val Sarentino are covered in crocuses. After another 20 minutes and a final ascent, we reach the mountain hut at 1,808 metres above sea level.

The Sebia Hut only opens at the start of summer, so we have brought our own picnic, which we enjoy with a view of the Sarentino Alps. The return journey follows the same route. Those who wish to can complete the circular walk around Lake Valdurna that was started earlier.
