In July and August, Castel Tirolo provides a unique open-air stage in its forecourt
Under the Merano summer sky, the Castle Festival in Tirolo village takes place every year from early July to early August. The association that organises these incomparable plays was founded in 2017. In 2026, the play "Mirandolina in Rock" based on Carlo Goldoni will be performed, a classic of the Commedia dell’arte in a modern interpretation: Artistic director Manfred Schweigkofler transports the piece into a rock-blues ambience with live music.
"The Canterville Ghost", "Jedermann", "Don Quixote" and "Lysistrata" by Aristophanes have already been staged in a modern, humorous adaptation in recent years, always in the German language.
The "Young Castle" theatre workshop is also held as part of the Castle Festival, giving young participants the chance to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of theatre. Children and teenagers from the 2nd year of primary school to the 2nd year of middle school can learn theatre techniques through play - in 2026, the theme "Power Girls and Boys" is on the programme.
After the festival performance in the forecourt of Tyrol Castle in Tirolo village, the Bistro Schlosswirt remains open. Bringing your own blanket or mosquito spray makes the theatre experience even more comfortable - tickets are available from the Schlossfestspiele association, called Verein Schlossfestspiele Dorf Tirol: tickets@schlossfestspiele.events.
