The Grape Festival in October, one of the most famous harvest festivals of South Tyrol, takes place in Merano.
After a long and hard period of work in the vineyards, it is high time to celebrate the vintage at the Grape Festival - “Meraner Traubenfest” in German, “Festa dell’Uva” in Italian - in the spa town of Merano (Meran). Highlight of the festival is the grand parade on Sunday, where decorated carriages, Haflinger horses, music bands in their traditional costumes from near and far, as well as folk groups and Schützen parade in the streets of the city.
Starting from the Venosta Gate, the parade proceeds along the Corso della Libertà road and the Passirio Promenade, and ends at the Theatre Square (Piazza Teatro). However, there is much to see both for adults and children. An experience not to be missed!
A first edition of the Merano Grape Festival took already place in 1886, whereas the traditional carriage with the Apple Crown has been part since 1949. In 2007 the festival has been extended to three days and offers now not only live music, wine and culinary delicacies, but also a market.
