Winter hike at the head of the Valle Aurina valley

Surrounded by the peaks of the Alti Tauri mountains, this winter walk takes us from Casere in Predoi past the Santo Spirito sanctuary to the Malga Trinkstein.

In this place, the northernmost valley of Italy wedges in the Alti Tauri mountains. The forested trail that starts at Casere and leads to the head of the valley, is a popular path also in winter and parallels the cross-country ski track. Ideal starting point (subject to charges) is the parking space at the nature park visitor's centre behind the buildings of Casere. After about one 1 km of walking, we reach the Malga Prastmann mountain hut. On the other side of the river, there is the Santo Spirito chapel, considered the emblem of this area.

The path proceeds towards the head of the valley to the Malga Trinkstein and Adleralm mountain huts (possibility to stop). In this place, after 2.5 km and almost one hour of walking, the winter trail ends. We dare to follow the traces of snow-shoes and some skis and proceed to the savage terrain, following the signpost no. 13. This is where we can perfectly enjoy the tranquillity of nature, before we decide to go back on the same route.
