Winter hike to the Weizgruber Mountain Hut

Above Selva dei Molini, on the slope below the Speikboden, the Weizgruber Alm mountain hut is located, which can be reached from the parking space on the Mühlwalder Höfeweg path via a forest road and is also open in winter: The descent is also possible by sledge.

A narrow mountain road connects the village of Selva dei Molini with the scattered settlement of Mitterberg on the sunny side of the Valle dei Molini valley. It is the approach to the starting point of our hike; parking facilities are available after the Rederlechen Farms at the junction to the Weizgruber Alm mountain hut. We follow the forest path into the wood. The levelled winter path leads easily but steadily uphill. After about an hour the dense coniferous forest thins out for the first time and the view on the surrounding mountains opens, from the 3,041 m high Cima del Vento (Grosse Windschar) to the Sesto and Braies Dolomites in the background.

At the 2,000-metre mark we reach the snow-covered meadows and the first wooden huts of the alpine pasture area. We continue for about 10 minutes through this beautiful landscape until we reach our destination, the Weizgruber Alm. In winter it is open continuously until March, we are looking forward to a stop for refreshments and traditional Tyrolean delicacies. To return to the starting point, we take the same route. It is also possible to descend by sledge, there is a sledge rental service at the mountain hut.
