Winter hike to the Fane Alpine Village

From the Jochtal skiing area in Valles up to the fairytale-like scenery of the Malga Fane - a winter dream in the Fundres Mountains

From the parking space of the Jochtal valley station in Valles (Gitschberg Jochtal Skiing Area) we walk towards the head of the valley, that is to say towards north. The cross-country ski tracks parallel our path. At the Kurzkofel Mountain Hut, we follow the indication "Milchweg" (Milk Trail), leading us the way to the Fane Alpine Village, the most beautiful alpine village in South Tyrol.

In the first section we walk across dense needle forests, constantly up. The next part of the trail, we walk on the forested path, which is easier to walk than the narrow trail in the forest, which is rather icy as well. Be cautious, there are people coming down quite speedy with their toboggans. Some curves later we reach the elevation, and behind a rock we can get a first view of the snow-covered alpine village, unrolling in a snow white basin, surrounded by high mountains. Really a fairytale-like scenery: the traditional wooden mountain huts and the little chapel with a wooden steeple.

In the middle of the mountain huts, there is also one tavern offering food and drinks. If you take the trouble to bring your toboggan (rental at the Kurzkofel Mountain Hut at the beginning of the way up), you can now enjoy a speedy ride down to the valley. The Malga Fane natural toboggan run, one of the toboggan runs of the valley, is classified as easy. Otherwise, enjoy your walk. Notice: The data indicated refer to the entire route, including return trip, on foot.
