Winter hiking path and sledge run Maseben

The Maseben Mountain Hut above the Vallelunga valley at 2,270 m a.s.l. is the destination of our winter hike with sledge ride

Nature, silence, peace, relaxation: All this is Maseben, a high plateau (with same-named mountain hut, the Rifugio Maseben or Berghütte Maseben) above the Vallelunga valley in the Upper Val Venosta, characterised by the seemingly untouched peaks of the Oetztal Alps.

In summer, Maseben is starting point for plenty of hiking tours, in winter the village serves as a base for ski tours, snowshoe hikes and sledge rides, as in our case. It is one of the toboggan runs in the Val Venosta valley. Starting point is the hamlet of Cappella (Kappl) in the Vallelunga valley. Parking possibilities can be found near the bus stop at the square on the right side of the road, near the church and the no longer operating chairlift.

The route is easily described - we just follow the signposts to Maseben (paths no. 19 and 15) until we reach the beautiful mountain hut at 2,270 m a.s.l. Also the Astronomical Observatory Maseben is located here - during the summer and winter months, it offers guided star tours with so-called "star guides". Notice: The data indicated refer to the entire route, including return trip, on foot.
