The Gewürztraminer Hiking Day takes place every year. The hike proceeds through the vineyards of Termeno, past historic wineries and distilleries. Today we follow the traces of the famous Gewürztraminer wine.
The hiking trail around the Lago di Caldaro proceeds through partly virgin nature and let us delve into numerous legends which surround this area. The lake is nesting place of lots of different bird species. It offers perfect conditions for swimming and provides also a beautiful circular route – for jogging, walking or relaxing in nature.

Quite a lot of exalted persons already stayed on the Passo Mendola, Empress Sissi, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, several ministers of the Republic, three popes (Johannes XXIII, Paul VI and Johannes Paul I) as well as Mahatma Gandhi are among them. We walked to the place where already Archduke Franz Ferdinand watched down on the valley, accompanied by a very likeable local inhabitant. Our excursion started in the Mendola funicular, the steepest funicular railway of Europe – very exciting!
Today our three-hour hike takes us from Caldaro to Roen. Mount Roen, with an altitude of 2216m is the highest mountain in the region of Mendola, situated on the border between South Tyrol and Trentino.
