Sustainable gastronomy and the roots of Val Gardena cuisine take centre stage at Culinarium Urtijëi in September and October
Urtijëi is the Ladin name for Ortisei, the main town in the Gardena Valley featuring the enchanting little Church of St. Anthony and the "Most beautiful shopping street in the Dolomites". Here, Michelin-starred restaurants, pizzerias, family-run inns and mountain huts providing high-quality cuisine stand side by side. In September and October, the village becomes a special culinary meeting point when Culinarium Urtijëi takes place.
The focus of these specialty weeks is, on the one hand, local cuisine: Local and regional products and recipes, including dumplings and filled pasta, are interpreted in creative new ways. A second key focus is sustainable gastronomy, which allows local businesses to look towards the future. Farms in the Val Gardena and farmers and winemakers in the surrounding South Tyrolean valleys act as the main suppliers.
During the golden season, guided hikes through the Dolomite landscape are organised as part of Culinarium Urtijëi. Furthermore, the annual "Segra Sacun" leaf market takes place in the pedestrian zone of Ortisei - it is Val Gardena's largest and most traditional market.
