Every year in early February, the Upper Val Pusteria serves as a backdrop for an important cross-country ski race

42 km in classical style or 32 km in skating style - for more than 40 years now, the Dobbiaco-Cortina cross-country skiing marathon has been held during the first weekend of February. The race starts at the Dobbiaco military airport and leads all the way to the village centre of Cortina d'Ampezzo, the famous winter sports location in the neighbouring Province of Belluno.
Together with the Val Casies and the Val Pusteria cross-country skiing marathons, the one of Dobbiaco-Cortina is the third top-class cross-country ski race taking place in the Val Pusteria valley within a few weeks. The first edition dates back to the 3rd of April 1977 - since then it follows the old railway track between the two beautiful villages.
