In spring, everything in the Tures and Aurina Valleys revolves around cheese, whether savoury or fresh, spicy or mild

For more than 15 years, the Cheese Festival, called Käsefestival Sand in Taufers, has been an integral part of the Tures and Aurina Valleys. Here, where there are several farm dairies producing South Tyrolean mountain cheese and the famous "Graukas" (grey cheese) is made, everything revolves around different varieties of cheese in mid-March.
Campo Tures becomes a gourmet market with local dairies as well as Italian and international cheese producers. Cheese in all its variations can be tasted, enjoyed and bought here - exhibitors include direct marketers as well as traders. The festival grounds are set up around the pavilion in the village centre. Local restaurants offer special cheese-themed days to mark the festival.
The supporting programme includes live cooking in the Cooking Arena with young South Tyrolean talents and established top chefs, "Taste Experiences" - guided tastings with simultaneous interpretation - as well as a children's programme where young visitors can make mozzarella and hot chocolate. On the first day of the event, an individually adapted and educational programme is offered for kindergartens and schools. Cheese takes centre stage again in autumn.
The "Graukäse" Cheese Days in the Valle Aurina take place in September, featuring a big festival in Cadipietra. Everything there revolves around this traditional, very low-fat sour milk cheese which is made from skimmed raw milk without rennet.
