First with running shoes, then with ski boots and ski touring equipment, the route leads from Bolzano to the Corno del Renon
In March, brave souls set out alone, or in teams of two or three, to face the Horn Attacke. They cover 20 kilometres between the provincial capital Bolzano and the summit of the Corno del Renon, towering 2,000 metres above. The ski area is still open at this time, while spring is already in the air in Bolzano. The race therefore begins in the town in running shoes:
From the Piazza Dodiciville square, the route leads through the district of Santa Maddalena - famous for its vineyards - up to the sunny plateau of the Renon and on to Tre Vie (Pemmern) near Auna di Sopra. There, running shoes are swapped for ski boots and touring skis. The Horn Attacke route now follows the designated ascent track to the Feltuner Mountain Hut on the Corno del Renon and from there continues along the panoramic hiking trail to the summit at an altitude of 2,260 metres - the Corno del Renon Skiing Area remains open during this period.
This combines 13.4 kilometres of running with 6.5 kilometres of ski touring. You can master the distances alone, in a relay team of two (one athlete runs, the other does the ski tour) or of three, with the running section split into Bolzano-Soprabolzano and Soprabolzano-Tre Vie. Adventurers can also choose the mountaineer version: Participants carry their ski touring equipment from Bolzano, and then carry their running gear with them to the finish line during the ski tour.
The Horn Attacke has established itself as a fixture in the Italian and international mountain sports calendar. Participation is open to anyone aged 18 and over with a valid medical certificate for competitive sports. Information on the route and registration: info@hornattacke.com.
