Mountaineer Reinhold Messner conveys the value of the wilderness at the mountain station of the former Monte Elmo Cable Car

Reinhold Messner has relocated from Juval in the Merano area to Sesto in the Upper Val Pusteria, where he has converted the mountain station of a former cable car. Upcycling was a central idea - the project aims to combine sustainability, environmental awareness, art and culture.
The result is the Reinhold Messner Haus (Haus means house in German), a place that is both an exhibition and a project, dedicated to preserving the wilderness of the mountains. Inside the house, an angular building, only private belongings of Reinhold and Diane Messner are on display. Colourful prayer flags flutter behind the building. Here, you can see sculptures, paintings, photos and art objects, as well as equipment from Reinhold Messner's expeditions: ropes, tents, helmets and sledges. Everything has been arranged to encourage pause and reflection.
The wide window front in the former hall, where the gondolas used to arrive, reveals a view of the Sesto Dolomites. Among them is their highest peak, the over 3,000-metre-high Punta dei Tre Scarperi. Various events take place in the house, which subtly combines old elements with contemporary architecture, or in the surrounding mountains. You can look forward to silent mindfulness walks, mountain breakfasts, and storytelling evenings with the mountaineering legend. These individual events, spread throughout summer, promise a special experience.
The project is managed and developed by Reinhold's wife, Diane. The partner is the 3 Zinnen AG, which operates the Helmjet Sesto, among other lifts. How to get there: You can reach the RMH using the Monte Elmo Cable Car from Versciaco or the Helmjet Sesto from San Vito, the main village of Sesto. In winter, these lift facilities also take you to the 3 Zinnen Dolomites Ski Resort. The house is located right next to the Monte Elmo (Helm) Restaurant.
