The highest located film festival in Italy, called DOLOMITALE, takes place every autumn in the heart of the South Tyrolean Dolomites
Since 2018, filmmakers and film lovers have been meeting in the Val Gardena valley every September, when the summer days slowly become shorter and autumn arrives in the Dolomites, to present or watch the latest cinematic works. At the DOLOMITALE Film Festival Val Gardena, the best documentary film of the Alps and the best South Tyrolean short film are awarded. The DOLOMITALE Documentary Award is given for the best documentary film of the Alps.
10% of the film must have been shot in the Alpine region of Germany, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria, Switzerland or Slovenia. The DOLOMITALE Short Film Award, on the other hand, goes to the best South Tyrolean short film: All genres are permitted, but the film length must not exceed 30 minutes and one member of the core creative team must come from South Tyrol or live here. New, however, is the DOLOMITALE Young Guns programme, which will be held for the first time in 2021: It offers young talents a stage for their works, which were realised as independent films or as part of their studies. The festival takes place in various locations, such as the "Luis Trenker" cultural centre and the "Circolo", both located in Ortisei.
