In the rather harsher climate of the Alta Valle Isarco valley, they do not grow fruit, but produce the best products from milk: The Vipiteno Dairy Factory), for example, has been processing and selling the milk of the surrounding farmers for more than 130 years. Moreover, high-quality yoghurt has been produced since 1963. This tradition is also celebrated every year in July at the Vipiteno Yoghurt Days - "Sterzinger Joghurttage" in German, "Giornate dello Yogurt di Vipiteno" in Italian.
They are opened with a show cooking, followed by two weeks of guided tours through the dairy factory, alpine cheese and butter tastings on Mt. Cavallo, family parties and hikes. By the way: A 5.4 km long theme trail, the Yoghurt Trail, also leads from the town centre to the dairy factory and back. 12 interactive stations show you, among other things, how milk is turned into yoghurt. It also leads past the 10 most important sights of Vipiteno, including the Vipiteno Town Hall.
