Winter hike to Platztair

San Martino in Monte is located at 1,700 m asl. and is starting and end point of our winter hike to the Platztair farm inn.

At Laces we take the cable car to San Martino in Monte and reach the hamlet within a few minutes. The church, dedicated to St. Martin, is prominently built directly to the rock. We enjoy a gorgeous view on the Val Venosta valley, from Castelbello until Silandro and Lasa, the Alps of the Val Sarentino valley, the Monte Tramontana and the glaciers of the Ortles mountain.

We follow the path no. 2, a road without any demanding ascents. It proceeds along the Monte Sole towards east. After about 45 minutes we reach the Platztair farm, where we enjoy a delicious traditional lunch in the farm tavern. For our way back we take the path no. 9A, partly a narrow trail which proceeds through the forest. The last section follows the asphalted road which leads us back to our starting point at the valley station of the cable car.
