This easy winter walk takes us from the centre of Avelengo to the Malga Leadner mountain hut, a worthwhile walking destination.

On a nice winter day in February we decide to make a walk to the Malga Leadner. We drive to Avelengo and park our car in the centre, where we take the path no. 2. The first part of the walk takes us across beautiful mountain meadows and provides a great view of the environs. Then we change on the path no. 16, which mainly runs in the forest. Frozen rivers, the smell of wood and a beautiful winter landscape accompany us on our way. Before we take the path no. 11, which finally leads to the mountain hut, the forest clears up and we can enjoy a fabulous view on the surroundings, first of all on the mountains in the surroundings of Merano.
Before we reach the mountain hut, we pass a nice lake, called “Bruggen Lacke” pond, which is frozen in winter. At the lakeside, there is an information panel that provides details about the flora and fauna of the area. After a last piece the way up, we finally reach the mountain hut. After about 1.30 h we made it, and now we really deserve one of the South Tyrolean delicacies.
After an extended sunbath, we decide to walk back to our starting point, which takes us about 1 hour. Alternatively we could also take the path no. 16A. A nice trip on a sunny day in February draws to a close.
