In Sant’Osvaldo, a district of Castelrotto, the Tschötscher Farm houses a small private farmers museum
An interesting journey into the past in the area of the Siusi Alp can be done, where the Tschötscherhof, a 500 year old farm, is located. It is enthroned in Sant'Osvaldo, a small hamlet and district of the municipality of Castelrotto, at 741 m a.s.l.
The wonderful building houses a private farmers museum which documents the life of the mountain farmers and woodworkers at the beginning of the last century: the Tschötscher Farm Life Museum - "Bauernmuseum im Tschötscherhof" in German, "Museo Contadino nel Tschötscherhof" in Italian. It was opened about 15 years ago in cooperation with the Museum Association Castelrotto in the barn of the farm. Today, in these venerable walls, you will find on two floors exhibits about faith, work, such as wool production, and the traditions of the locals.
The Tschötscher Farm still processes wood for private purposes today, there is also a tavern offering local specialities and inviting visitors to the traditional Törggelen in autumn. And how to reach the museum? The hamlet of Sant'Osvaldo is located along the state road Ponte Gardena - Castelrotto. Moreover there is also a bus service between Castelrotto and Sant'Osvaldo.
