The tasty world of goat’s cheese production awaits you in Vandoies in the Val Pusteria valley.
In Vandoies, more precisely in the area of the World of Loden along the Via Val Pusteria road, there is a paradise for cheese lovers. The Dairy Adventure World Capriz - "Capriz Erlebniskäserei" in German, "Capriz - caseificio da vivere" in Italian - opened its exhibition and tasting rooms here in 2013 and has been attracting cheese lovers from near and far since then. Capriz was the first cheese dairy in South Tyrol that specialised entirely on goat cheese. And with success!
Everything here tells about the goat and its cheese: The name derives from "Capra", meaning goat, and the building itself should remind the visitors of a piece of cheese on a copper kettle. Architect Stefan Gamper used only sustainable materials such as Swiss stone pine, copper and glass for this project. It is divided into two areas: the adventure world and the bistro area. On the ground floor and basement, interactive elements show the production process: from milking to making cheese, from the world of bacteria and cultures to correct storage.
The 1,000 sq m adventure world is rounded off by large glass windows to watch the master cheesemaker at work, as well as the sales and bistro area. There you can taste goat's cream cheese, white mould cheese and strong, spicy mountain cheese. At the World Cheese Awards 2019-2020 in Bergamo, the Capriz cheese dairy was awarded six medals. And how to reach it? Turn off from the Val Pusteria state road at Vandoies di Sopra towards "Lodenwelt" (World of Loden) and follow the signs. Bus no. 401 (from Brunico or Bressanone) also stops there.
