Mountain tour to the Marmo Lake near Valles

This mountain tour above Valles features high-altitude trails, alpine pastures, a mountain lake, a gorge, meadows and woods

The cable car takes us from Valles up to the Jochtal mountain station. From here we set off on foot, initially heading slightly downwards to the lower-lying Giogo di Valles pass at 1,930 metres, and then continuing along the Rotenstein High Route. It goes above the tree line to the Rotensteiner Hut, before the path crosses a few scree slopes to lead up a steep incline with secured sections.

The autumn colours of the moorland landscape at the Peachenjoch create a special atmosphere. The sunshine and the expansive views reaching as far as the Dolomites make this path truly inspiring. We now walk down across a wet meadow to the Ochsenalm Hut, then follow signpost no. 18 to the Aschila Hut. Looking down into the valley reveals the Fane Alpine Village.

We will visit it later. First we face a steep uphill climb along the slope, before heading down to the Aschila Hut and then back up to the the Marmo Lake (Marblsee). This small high-alpine jewel sits on a gentle plateau at 2,400 metres, and its waters reflect the surrounding mountain peaks. The next stop is the lower-lying Labesebenalm, a mountain hut in the Fundres Mountains.

After a relaxing stop at the hut, we follow a wide downward path through the Valler Schramme gorge to reach the Fane Alm, known as the most beautiful alpine village in South Tyrol. The cluster of small wooden houses and a chapel is truly idyllic and features three open mountain huts.

The final section leads us down from 1,739 metres above sea level along the forest path to Valles, where our extensive tour through the scenic beauty of the Valle di Valles valley concludes.
