The broad high valley stretching from Plan to Lazins is a wonderful place to experience on a sunny winter’s day

From Moso in Passiria, the road leads up to the car park in Plan at 1,600 metres above sea level. The slopes of the small Plan Passiria Skiing Area extend around the traffic-calmed village centre. We, however, stay on the valley floor and begin our walk on this February day on trail no. 24, which takes us to the sunny side of the valley. This path follows the course of the Merano High Route. Ascending gently, the route leads to the hamlet of Zeppichl.
While the first kilometre was cleared of snow, we now follow the groomed winter hiking trail to Lazins. The local Lazinser Hof is a mountain inn and offers a place to stop for refreshments in winter too. Following the course of the frozen Rio di Plan, we continue along the broad path to the Lazins Hut at the head of the valley. This is situated at just under 1,880 metres above sea level in the heart of the Gruppo di Tessa Nature Park (Naturpark Texelgruppe).
We encounter cross-country skiers in this magnificent fairytale landscape: The cross-country ski track turns around shortly before the hut and leads back towards Plan. The newly built Malga Lazins is open to day guests all year round - in summer it is an extremely popular destination that also offers an e-bike charging station. After a break, the time has come for us to turn back too.
From the Lazins Hut to Lazins we follow the outward route, then keep to the right: Hiking trail no. 8 brings us back to Plan. The walk took two and a half hours.
