Eck Museum of Art

Discover the Brunico Town Museum and its unique artists’ workshop in the Val Pusteria valley

The museum of the town of Brunico (Stadtmuseum Bruneck) opened its doors in 1995 in the town's former coaching inn, a historic building where horses were once changed. Under the direction of the Pro Brunico Museum Association, the museum presents a fascinating combination of historical collections and modern and contemporary art.

A highlight is the keystone by Michael Pacher, a Tyrolean painter and sculptor, from the church of Issengo. You can also admire local sacred art, such as the late Gothic winged altarpiece by Simon and Veit from Tesido, works by artists such as Michael Pacher and Paul Troger, and a collection of 12,000 ex libris from around the world. The historical exhibits in the Gothic Room originate from the old Brunico Local Museum (Heimatmuseum Bruneck), dating back to 1912. The core collection was formed by the estate of the Brunico chronicler Johann Nepomuk Tinkhauser (1787-1844).

Another focus is on exhibitions of contemporary and modern art by regional, national, and international artists. Exhibits from the fields of graphic art, painting, sculpture, and photography rotate several times a year. In 2023, the museum was renamed the Eck Museum of Art and a new exhibition opened. Of particular interest: The museum houses its own artists' workshop with all the necessary equipment for gravure printing, surface printing and relief printing (etching, lithography & woodcarving), which hosts courses and workshops for adults and children.

How to get there? You'll find the Eck Museum of Art in the Via Bruder Willram road no. 1, between the entrance to the old town and the Piazza Cappuccini square. Paid parking is available at the Piazza Cappuccini (Capuchin Square).
