MuseumPasseier - Andreas Hofer

Dedicated to the South Tyrolean freedom fighter (1767-1810), the MuseumPasseier is located in the historic Sandhof farm, which still houses the Sandwirt tavern. The 500 sqm exhibition explores the legend of Hofer and the 1809 Tyrolean rebellion against Napoleon's French troops.

The museum is divided into three sections: "Heroes and Hofer" examines Andreas Hofer and his era, while "Heroes and Us" delves into the concept of heroism. Outdoors, "Valley and People" showcases a typical Val Passiria cluster farm with its outbuildings. An extensive collection of music from the valley ("The Passeier Sound") and interactive exhibits for children, including the Andreas Hofer quiz and the podium to feel yourself as a hero further enrich the museum experience.

Adjacent to the museum are the tavern, the Hofer Memorial Chapel, and a fish pond. The museum also incorporates external sites: the French Cemetery down in the valley, Giovo Castle, and the museum at the Pfistrad Alp, high above San Leonardo in Passiria. Combine your museum visit with a hike along the Andreas Hofer Circular Trail (1.5 hours) or the "Passeirer Schluchtenweg"".

The latter (2.5 hours) begins at the San Leonardo sports area and ends at the Bunker Mooseum, for which a combined ticket is available. How to get to the MuseumPasseier: Parking is available for those arriving by car, and the bus stops at the Sandhof. The museum is situated directly on the main road in San Leonardo in Passiria.
