"Helene's Schafwollverarbeitung" is the name given to the small private Sheep Wool Museum, which is connected to a wool manufactory, or vice versa. Here, virgin sheep wool from the Tures and Aurina Valleys and other valleys is processed into knitting yarn, hand-knitted items, carpets, bedding, slippers, and much more, both in standard sizes and custom-made.
The small shop where the products are sold is part of this establishment. These include items made from healing wool, which is the term for natural, unprocessed sheep wool with residual fat content. It contains wool wax (lanolin), which has skin-nourishing properties and is traditionally used for inflamed and weeping wounds. It is also commonly applied for muscle tension and joint pain, bladder and tendon inflammation, skin irritations, and colds (sore throats, earaches, coughs).
When Advent approaches, the Sheep Wool Museum is located precisely in the area of the Magic Forest, where the small Christmas Market of the Advent in Tures Taufers is held. During these weeks, the museum and shop owner, Helene Brusa, in cooperation with the Tures Sheep Breeding Association, offers a programme that includes mulled wine, finger food, and special Advent tours.
How to get to the Sheep Wool Museum? It is situated in Cantuccio, or Bad Winkel, near Campo Tures, from where the hiking trail to the Riva Waterfalls also starts. The bus stops on the Via Winkel road, just a few minutes' walk away. Incidentally, right next to the Sheep Wool Museum (Schafwoll-Museum, in German), you will find the Goasroscht farm dairy and shop. There, the focus is no longer on sheep, but on "Goas," which means goats.
